Submissions Guidelines

LAER wants to make the submission process simpler by using Your Paper, Your Way (YPYW) since 2020. YPYW is an easier submission process, focusing on the quality of the manuscript and only requiring elements needed for eventual production at the final stage. Submission must consist of only two files: the original manuscript (PDF only) and a cover letter (PDF only).

Submission to this journal proceeds totally online and you will be guided stepwise at https://www.latinaer.org/index.php/laer/user/register.

Further considerations:

  • Authors must submit their manuscript (text, figures and tables) as a single PDF file. The LAER portal (OJS) does not accept any other file formats.
  • Figures should be of high enough resolution for reviewing.
  • Manuscripts must be written in English.
  • Manuscript has been 'spell checked' and 'grammar checked'.
  • All references mentioned in the Reference List are cited in the text, and vice versa.
  • Permission has been obtained for use of copyrighted material from other sources (including the Internet).
  • A competing interests statement is provided, even if the authors have no competing interests to declare.
  • Authors' contributions, Funding, Availability of data and materials, Ethics approval and consent to participate must be provided.

Submission of a manuscript must be accompanied by a cover letter that addresses the following questions:

  • What is the novelty of this work?
  • Is the paper appealing to a popular or scientific audience?
  • Why the authors think the paper is important and why the journal should publish it?
  • Are you available as a reviewer for LAER?

The first page of the manuscript file is the title page (please do not submit separate files for the title page and the main text) that must include:

  • Title. Concise and informative. Titles are often used in information-retrieval systems. Avoid abbreviations and formulae where possible.
  • Author names and affiliations. Please clearly indicate the given name(s) and family name(s) of all authors and check that all names are accurately spelled. Indicate all affiliations immediately after each author's name. Provide the e-mail address of each author. Author names must be given in alphabetical order (if otherwise, please state the reason in the cover letter).
  • Corresponding author. Clearly indicate who will handle correspondence at all stages of refereeing and publication, also post-publication. Ensure that the e-mail address is given and that contact details are kept up to date by the corresponding author.
  • Abstract. An abstract highlighting the main contribution of the submitted paper must appear on the title page. The abstract should not be more than 150 words. Providing keywords and JEL codes is optional at this stage.
  • See the SAMPLE submission file.

If a revision is requested by the editors, the authors must submit

  1. A cover letter in PDF format,
  2. The revised manuscript in PDF format (adhering to the same guidelines for the initial submission),
  3. A (single) detailed letter addressing all points raised by all the reviewers of the manuscript.
